How To Play Roulette

The game of roulette is one of the oldest casino games, it's among the most popular gambling games and can be very profitable.

On a roulette table you'll find a spinning wheel and a betting area. The wheel, depending on the variation, contains either thirty seven or thirty eight numbered slots.

The game is played by spinning a small ball on the roulette wheel, the ball then comes to a stop in one of the slots. Your aim is to predict where the ball will land. You can do this in one of several ways.

Different Types Of Roulette Table

Single Zero - Often referred to as European roulette, where the wheel has thirty seven slots. 1 - 36 and one 0. This is the best variation to play.

Double Zero - Is the most common roulette variation found in the US. The wheel contains 38 different numbers. 1 -36, 0 and 00. The extra zero roughly doubles the advantage of the house so we highly recommend you play on a single zero table where possible.

How To Play

You have a choice when placing your bets. In total there are 10 different bets you can make on a roulette table. You can pick just 1 number or with a single chip cover 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 or 18 different numbers.

The short lines of 3 numbers are called rows, while the longer lines of 12 are called columns. The first 5 types of bets are made on the numbered space or on the lines between them and are called inside bets. The other 5 are made on the special boxes below and to the left of the board and are called outside bets.

Each bet has a different pay out and covers different amounts of numbers:

  Bet Name Chip Placed Payout
1 Straight Up On 1 number only 35/1
2 Split Bet On the line between 2 different numbers 17/1
3 Street Bet At the end of a row of 3 numbers 11/1
4 Corner Bet On the corner of 4 numbers 8/1
5 Line Bet On the line between two rows, covering 6 numbers 5/1
6 Column Bet In one of the boxes at the end of a column, covering 12 numbers 2/1
7 Dozen Bet In either the box marked 1st, 2nd or 3rd 12, covering 12 numbers 2/1
8 Red or Black In box marked red or black, covering 18 numbers 1/1
9 Odd or Even In box marked odd or even box, covering 18 numbers 1/1
10 High or Low In box marked 1-18 or 19-36, covering 18 numbers 1/1

After your bets have been placed, the wheel is spun and eventually the ball comes to rest in one of the numbered slots. Depending on the bet(s) you have placed you will either win or lose.
